Lara Biancalana

Lara Biancalana was born in 2003 in Rome, into a family of musicians. She started playing the cello at the age of six and frequented Santa Cecilia Conservatoire in Rome with Paolo Andriotti before moving to England. In 2018, sustained by a generous scholarship awarded for merit, she moved to London and started studying at The Yehudi Menuhin School “for musically gifted children”, where she studied for two and a half years, with Thomas Carroll, Matthijs Broersma and Adrian Brendel. Currently she is a student of Antonio Meneses at the Stauffer Center for Strings in Cremona and frequenting her last year of Bachelor Degree at Conservatorio Giulio Briccialdi. She is also part of the Avos Project – International Music School in Rome, where she is in Alessio Pianelli’s cello class and Quartetto Prometeo’s string quartet class with her own Quartetto Klem. Her concert debut took place in 2016 at the Ravenna Festival, where she was invited to perform by cellist Giovanni Sollima, as a young and promising talent.

Since then, she shared the stage with musicians such as Roman Simovic, Salvatore Accardo, Stephen Waarts, Milena Simovic, Georgi Kovalev, Giovanni Gnocchi, Anastasia Kobekina, Brannon Cho, Kevin Spagnolo, Enrico Pace and Itamar Golan. From 2019 the Italian association “Musica con le Ali“ has been sustaining her and including her in their project of artistic patronage dedicated to the best Italian young musicians. In 2021 she was selected to participate in “Mit Musik- Miteinander”, a project from Kronberg Academy. Lara is one of the 2021 scholarship holders of the “Roscini-Padalino” and “Cucinelli Foundation” Prize, thanks to which, in addition to a generous economic support, she will have the chance to perform for their concert seasons. Since the same year she is part of the LGT Young Soloists, an internationally renowned ensemble of young virtuosos performing all over the world in some of the most prestigious venues. She performed in concert seasons such as Ridotto del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, La Fenice Theatre in Venice, IUC- La Sapienza University Concerts Season, GOG – Giovine Orchestra Genovese, Trame Sonore in Mantua, Oratorio del Gonfalone in Rome, Merano Music Festival, Ravenna Festival, The Menuhin Hall, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Heidelberger Fruhling Festival, Copenhagen Summer Festival. She is a prize winner of many national and international competitions, such as International Dinu Lipatti for Youth, “Young Performers” 2017 in Pescara, where she also won the special prize Art 2017 and the production of a discographic demo with Odradek Records, Premio Crescendo of Florence where she was awarded the Jury’s prize as well, LAMS Matera Award, Grand Prize Virtuoso of Salzburg and Audience Prize at the Anna Kull cello competition in Graz. She had several cello and chamber music masterclasses with Giovanni Sollima, Giovanni Gnocchi, Francesco Dillon, Massimo Polidori, Umberto Clerici, Enrico Bronzi, Colin Carr, Brannon Cho, Kian Soltani, Thomas Demenga, Frans Helmerson and Steven Isserlis. The Society of Concerts in Milan has chosen Lara as Artist in Residence of the 2022/2023 season.
