Edoardo Giachino graduated in percussion instruments from the Conservatorio “G.Ghedini” in Cuneo with Riccardo Balbinutti, later attended two-year specialization courses at the Accademia Internazionale di Musica in Milan, and thanks to a scholarship from the De Sono Associazione per la Musica, he specialized with Emmanuel Sejournè at the Conservatoire National in Strasbourg and with Gustavo Gimeno, percussionist at the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
In 2001 he won the Yamaha Scholarship Award.
In the orchestral field, he has collaborated with the Orchestra Sinfonica dell’Accademia di S. Cecilia, Orchestra Mozart, Orchestra del Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Filarmonica del Teatro alla Scala, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini of Parma, Teatro dell’Opera of Rome, Teatro La Fenice of Venice, Teatro San Carlo of Naples, Teatro Comunale of Bologna with conductors such as Antonio Pappano, Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, S. Ozawa, Lorin Maazel, Yuri Temirkanov, Mstislav Rostropovich, Myung-Whun Chung, Riccardo Chailly, George Pretre, Kurt Masur, Gustavo Dudamel, Daniel Harding, Tan Dun. He has collaborated with various chamber groups specializing in contemporary or percussion-only music including Divertimento Ensemble and Demoè Percussion Ensemble (with whom he recorded two monographic CDs for Stradivarius) and with early music ensembles such as Zefiro (with whom he recorded a CD for Amadeus magazine and subsequently released by Sony) and the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra of Toronto. He is founder of 4TAKT, an ensemble involving some of the most promising young percussionists on the Italian music scene. In 2007 he won the percussion competition announced by the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 2009 he won the one announced by the Orchestra Sinfonica dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, within which he occupies the role of coordinator of the percussion section, with which he has also performed as a soloist performing music by Tan Dun. Very active in terms of pedagogy, he has been a lecturer at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia’s Alta Formazione courses and the creator of the PercussJuni project, a workshop that deals with the musical training of children and young people; he has taught at the conservatories of Avellino and Salerno and given master classes for various musical institutions. He founded a new Advanced Training Course in Rome at the Corelli Association and holds an annual series of lectures at the Turin Conservatory of Music entitled “Percussion in the Orchestral Repertoire.” He is a Zildjian, BlackSwampPercussion and AK-drums endorser.
