Villa Pennisi in Musica

LEGO Architecture continues its partnership with Villa Pennisi in Musica with the launch of a new building contest aiming at helping architecture students to explore new ways to design sustainable structures to amplify the sound in a destroyed theatre.

The old Teatro Bellini in Acireale will be the centre of the new LEGO Architecture building contest at Villa Pennisi in Musica. A baroque theatre, once the heart of music and culture in the city, was destroyed by a fire in the fifties and only partially reconstructed, but because of the safety structure put in place the theatre cannot be used to play music anymore.

With #FILLTHETHEATRE contest LEGO Architecture will challenge the architecture students involved in the Villa Pennisi in Musica workshop to design indoor structures that will allow the theatre to re-gain its music hall function, using the over 1,200 white and transparent bricks of the LEGO Architecture Studio set.

Villa Pennisi in Musica is an annual festival dedicated at exhibiting the excellence in the fields of classical music, architecture and performance design, and at encouraging an active participation of different arts and disciplines in creating a unique listening experience for both the audience and the musicians.

The fifteen-day festival includes live performances, exhibitions, presentations, workshops and lectures by major classical musicians and acknowledged practitioners in the field of sound, architecture and design.
